Kurs Introduction to Bioinformatics [EN]
Dr. rer. nat. Ekaterina Akimova-Höpner BA BSc MSc
***Kurssprache: Englisch***
This two-day introductory course is designed for beginners in bioinformatics with a background or interest in biology, medicine, or data science. The goal is to provide a foundational understanding of bioinformatics workflows and help participants navigate the field.
The course begins with a gentle introduction to the command line, allowing participants to gain confidence in typical bioinformatics computing environments. Building on this foundation, the course offers a practical overview of key areas of bioinformatics. Through selected examples, participants will be introduced to topics such as gene expression analysis, the use of Bioconductor, and fundamental concepts of multi-omics data integration. The focus is on understanding how these analyses are structured and how their results can be interpreted.
What will participants learn? After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- navigate common bioinformatics working environments with greater confidence
- understand and contextualize fundamental concepts in bioinformatics
- identify key application areas such as gene expression analysis, sequence alignment, and multi-omics approaches
- make informed decisions about appropriate next steps for further learning and specialization
