Modul GIS - Geographic Information Systems (in English)

Most of the human activities are linked directly or indirectly to a location. Almost 80% of the world’s data include some kind of spatial component. This means that data are connected to a place in the Earth. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used to store, visualize and analyse spatial data. We all use GIS and spatial data when we e.g use a navigation system for hiking or to find a restaurant.

In this course you get an overview of the main topics of GIS and spatial data. In practical exercises we will use desktop GIS, collect spatial data in the field, draw maps and do some spatial analysis.

Voraussetzungen: Diese Veranstaltung ist für Studentinnen aus allen Studienrichtungen geeignet. Es werden keine besonderen Kenntnisse in Informatik oder IT vorausgesetzt, informatische Themen werden behutsam und von Grund auf behandelt.
